Event Information:

"SAV" refers to Submerged Aquatic Vegetation, or Bay grasses. Underwater grasses in the Chesapeake Bay are a significance source of food for waterfowl, as well as a habitat for blue crabs and juvenile finfish. Our speaker, Brooke, is a DNR biologist, and heads the Chesapeake Bay Program's SAV monitoring group that we have been a part of. She will discuss the nature of the project and its goals, the value of SAV, the coverage of SAV in the past (as seen by VIMS), and what the future holds. Learn about the value SAV plays in our local watershed, from providing habitat for living things, to reducing shoreline erosion. Listen to Brooke being interviewed on a podcast episode of WYPR's The Environment in Focus, "Underwater Grasses Double in Chesapeake Bay, But Now Face New Threat" --
