Event Information:

Presented by Colleen Webster, Professor of Literature at HCC Colleen Webster—English professor, award-winning writer and speaker—will present a dramatic reading of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper,” followed by analysis and discussion of the historical context and meaning of the piece. The short story, written in the late nineteenth century, reveals the psychological distress overtaking a woman as she undergoes the popular “rest cure” at the insistence of her husband and doctor for nervous depression and hysteria. Free & open to the public. Limited seating. Reservation strongly recommended.
