Women of the Turf Exhibit Opening and Equestrian Journalism Award Presentation
The Hays-Heighe House at Harford Community College
Women of the Turf, guest curated by Maryanna Skowronski, Director, Historical Society of Harford County, honors women in Maryland and beyond who have excelled in all aspects of equestrian sport, including as thoroughbred farm owners, trainers, jockeys and journalists. Join us for an evening of tribute to women in sport that includes the presentation of the Hays-Heighe House at HCC's Robert and Anne Heighe Award for Excellence in Equestrian Journalism. This year's recipients are Cappy Jackson and Lydia Williams whose equestrian photojournalism has been featured in Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred and other venues. Meet special guest Kathy Kusner, Olympic medalist and first licensed female jockey in the United States who will offer remarks at the award presentation. The evening begins with the Women of the Turf Exhibit Opening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Hays-Heighe House at Harford Community College. Take a leisurely tour of this extraordinary exhibit before strolling next door to the Chesapeake Center Dining Rooms for the award presentation from 7:15-8:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and include heavy hors d’oeuvres and beer/wine, and may be purchased online at tickets.harford.edu or in person at the Chesapeake Center Box Office (443-412-2211). Limited seating; purchase early. Ticket sales close on October 3, 2019. A portion of each ticket price is tax-deductible ($15) and proceeds will benefit the Hays-Heighe House. Additional information about the event is available at Harford.edu/womenoftheturf, or by emailing haysheighe@harford.edu or calling (443) 412-2539.
